The first in the country with the aim of providing free energy to at least 50,000 farmers in Thessaly
One of the largest photovoltaic parks for the benefit of agricultural production in Thessaly, is preparing to operate in the region and is expected to be the first in the country, with the aim of providing free energy, but also benefiting at least 50,000 farmers in collaboration with the Region of Thessaly, the General Organization of Vascular Improvements (GOEB of Thessaly) as well as of the Local Organization of Vascular Improvements of Pinio (TOEB of Pinio).
As the regional governor of Thessaly, Kostas Agorastos, noted to APE-MPE, “today he is starting a project for the free supply of energy to the farmers who are part of the TOEB Piniou”, to add that: “With a strategic relationship with France, we have drawn up an agro-energy plan. For the first time, energy is managed in a balanced way and keeps society together, while empowering farmers to continue. In this way, a significant breath is given to those who are unable to pay the electricity”.
The General Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Environment and Water, Petros Varelidis, in his statements during the presentation of the project, emphasized: “On behalf of the government, I would like to congratulate the company, the Region, and of course above all the farmers of the region who, despite the stereotypes that exist, understand the course of things and show a pioneering spirit by undertaking to actively participate in this innovative project which will of course bring enormous benefits to the farmers of the area”
It is worth emphasizing that according to the project, floating photovoltaic elements will also be installed that allow the use of water surfaces for energy production, while reducing evaporation phenomena. Finally, storage devices will complement these solar generation facilities, allowing the integration of green energy into the grid and a more efficient and green energy mix for Thessaly
It is noted that the photovoltaic park is the first project of the Akuo company in Greece, consisting of 4 photovoltaic stations with a power of 1 MW each. In addition, it is the first project in which Akuo will sell electricity directly to the market through its participation in the Energy Exchange markets.
According to the company’s information, in the coming months, the licensing “maturation” of a portfolio of stations with a total power of 500MW will be completed, so that their construction can begin after their financing is finalized.
