Massive and serious reports of incidents of patients getting infection, allergic reaction – even disfigured – after botox and other aesthetic operations in unsuitable places and by unskilled personnel, have lately reached the Medical Association of Patras.

In fact, among the incidents recorded by the Medical Association of Patras, there are cases of fellow citizens who turned to private doctors and Primary Health Care structures, because they had serious side effects that could not be treated and were subsequently hospitalized.

Speaking to “P”, the president of the Medical Association of Patras, Anna Mastorakou, said: “It is the first time that we have received mass complaints from colleagues that there are serious incidents of deformities, deformities, infections, allergic reactions from the application of cosmetic procedures (botox etc. .a.) by untrained beauty and aesthetic professionals and indeed in nail care centers and even at home”.

The worst of all is that they are also used materials of unknown origin. “For these operations, materials of unknown origin or materials from eastern countries without any certification have been used. On the contrary, specialized doctors (dermatologists, plastic surgeons) use approved products and even give the bar code to their client so that in the event of a side effect, they can see how to deal with it. I point this out because colleagues when they don’t know a product they don’t know how to deal with its side effects.”

“It is not only deformities but also very serious infections that are difficult to treat. Many times doctors cannot take these incidents and deal with them because, I emphasize again, they do not know the materials that have caused the damage”.

As Mrs. Mastorakou explains, “these injectable aesthetic facial treatments are essentially a specialized item. It’s running exclusively from doctors, dermatologists and plastic surgeons, who are specialized in the subject. Also, they must be performed in appropriately designed spaces. From this alone it is understood that injectable treatments cannot be done at home as it is too dangerous. An allergic reaction can be caused, which can be fatal for human life.”

Request for control and supervision

The management of the Association has already intervened in the Region of Western Greece, which is the supervisory authority for the operation of the Aesthetics Centers, so that there is supervision and control. “As an Association, we have also intervened in the Aesthetics Centers by pointing out that these operations must be performed by doctors who must be registered with the Medical Association and of course perform these operations in licensed and appropriate places” adds Mrs. Mastorakou calling citizens to be especially careful and not to be swayed by what they hear around them.
