1822:
The qualified Zafirakis Theodosiou raises the flag of the Revolution in Naoussa.
1936
The leader of the Liberals, Themistocles Sofoulis, and the leader of the parliamentary group of the Pallaikos Front, Stylianos Sklavainas, sign a secret pact, with which the Pallaikos Front commits to support Sofoulis during the election of the president of the Parliament, while the Liberals in turn to abolish Idonymos, the state security service, and to amnesty leading members of the KKE (Sofoulis-Sklavaina Agreement).
1947:
The government of Maximos decides to establish the camp for political prisoners in Makronissos, during the civil war.
1956:
Elections are held in Greece: The National Radical Union (E.R.E.) of Constantinos Karamanlis, although receiving 26,000 votes less than the coalition of parties Democratic Union, forms an independent government, due to the electoral system (three-phase). These are the first parliamentary elections in which Greek women also vote.
1959:
The final agreement for the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus is signed in London between Britain, Greece, Turkey, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. (Zurich – London Agreements)
1978
Carnage at Larnaca airport. Egyptian commandos intervene without the permission of the Cypriot authorities to rescue 12 Egyptian hostages, who are being held by 2 Arab terrorists on a Cyprus Airways plane. The National Guard and Police kill 15 of the commandos and destroy the C-130 carrying them.

Paul Maria Bonaparte, Napoleon’s nephew. He came to Greece to take part in the Race, but was seriously wounded on the frigate “Hellas” by a completely accidental discharge of his gun, and shortly afterwards died amidst the general grief of all over the tragic event. (D. 7/9/1827)
