The Porsche revealed at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show the new 911 Dakar. This is a special version of the well-known model, which is also suitable for off-road driving.

Only 2,500 units of this expensive special-spec car were planned to be built, commemorating Porsche’s first victory in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally.

This important victory also marked the birth of all-wheel drive in the Porsche 911. The new 911 Dakar is also offered with an optional Rallye design package, reminiscent of this iconic car.

The first impressive detail of the Porsche 911 Dakar is the ground clearance, which is 50 millimeters higher than that of a 911 Carrera with sports suspension. The lift system can raise the front and rear ends by an additional 30 millimeters. Ground clearance and camber angle rival those of comparable sized conventional SUVs. The lift system is not only used for slow passage of obstacles, but is an integral part of the upgraded chassis. The “high level” setting is available for off-road adventures at speeds of up to 170 km/h. Above this speed, the car automatically lowers to its normal level.

The car’s sporty off-road characteristics are complemented by specially developed 245/45 ZR 19 front and 295/40 ZR 20 rear tires. They have a massive nine mm deep tread pattern and reinforced sidewalls.

The six-cylinder biturbo boxer 3,000 cc. it produces 480 hp and a maximum torque of 570 Nm. The new sports car accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 240 km/h.

The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Maximum off-road performance is also ensured by two new driving modes, which can be selected using the rotary switch on the steering wheel. Rallye mode is ideal for loose, uneven surfaces and features a rear-focused all-wheel drive system. In off-road mode the high clearance is activated automatically. This feature is designed for maximum grip on rough terrain and sand. Both new driving modes also feature the new Rallye Launch Control.

The roof of the Porsche 911 Dakar has a visible 12-volt socket for the headlights of the optional roof rack. With a capacity of 42 kg, the rack can accommodate rally equipment such as fuel and water containers, folding shovels and drag boards without any problems. A roof tent is also available for the 911 Dakar. The new Porsche 911 Dakar in Germany has a starting price of 222,020 euros.
