From the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police, taking into account the increased exit and entry of vehicles to and from urban centers during the celebration of Halloween and Maundy Monday, special importance and emphasis was given to the implementation of traffic enforcement actions aimed at road safety of excursions.

In this context, the Traffic services implemented an integrated network of measures, which included targeted and systematic traffic controls, aimed at preventing and preventing traffic accidents and facilitating road traffic.

The checks focused mainly on ‘dangerous’ and anti-social traffic offences, which can lead to a serious or even fatal road accident, such as speeding, drink driving, using a mobile phone while driving, violation of a red light, illegal overtaking, violation of the Emergency Lane (LEA), etc.

In particular, particular importance was given to violations related to excessive speed and driving under the influence of alcohol, and 3,283 and 652 violations were confirmed respectively, i.e. 28.8% of the total number of violations confirmed.

In more detail, from February 24 until yesterday, Clean Monday, February 27, 2023, a total of 1,924 workshops were set up, of which 59,832 vehicles were checked and 13,683 traffic violations were confirmed.

Specifically: 3,283 for excessive speed, 652 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 487 for not having a driver’s license, 403 for not using a seat belt, 343 for not using a protective helmet, 312 for not having a KTEO, 144 for driving in the opposite direction, 108 for using mobile phone while driving, 80 for irregular maneuvers, 73 for worn tires, 71 for irregular overtaking, 70 for violation of red light, 42 for Emergency Lane, 20 for driving in the left lane, 12 for not using child seats, 6 for violation priority and 7,577 for other violations.

At the same time, according to ELAS data from February 24 until yesterday, Clean Monday, February 27, 2023, traffic was particularly high at the entry and exit points: from Attica, 346,050 vehicles exited and 309,825 vehicles entered, while from Thessaloniki 196,687 vehicles exited and 190,750 entered.
