Frontal collision
The two trains, one commercial and one passenger, collided violently shortly before midnight, at the height of Evangelismos. According to the estimates so far, the fatal tragedy happened when the two trains were on the same line and collided head-on.
“It was a head-on collision, the two trains were moving on the same line in the opposite direction,” said the president of the train drivers, Kostas Genidounias, speaking to SKAI, referring to the fatal accident after the collision of the two trains in Tempi.
He explained that the trains enter the line with an order given by the manager and added that “no electronic system works, everything is done manually on the biggest part of the line”.
The station master was brought in for the train accident
According to information from SKAI, three statements have been received so far, from the station master, the locksmith who were on duty at the time of the accident and from a representative of the company. The next instructions that will be given by the prosecution authorities are expected.
Scenes taken from an ancient tragedy are unfolding outside the Emergency Departments of the two Larissa hospitals, the General and the University.
Relatives of passengers on the fatal train have gathered waiting to hear any news about their loved ones. Screams, screams and tears break the silence of the night for those who find that their man is no longer alive.
