Huge efforts by rescue crews to extract people from the amorphous mass of iron, in the worst railway accident in the country
In front of the worst train accident of the Greek railways are the rescue crews who since last night are still making enormous efforts to retrieve people from the debris of trains.
At the scene of the accident two huge cranes they pick up pieces of the passenger carriages which have been crushed by the frightful collision and turned into a shapeless mass of ironwork.

By 11 o’clock, other human bodies had been recovered from the wrecked carriages, raising the number of dead in 36.
Unfortunately, the number is estimated to rise, as stated in its last update at 11:20 in the morning, the press representative of the Fire Department, fire chief Vassilis Vathrakogiannis.
He also pointed out that according to the electronic data the Helinic Train was on the train at the time of the collision 342 passengers and 10 staff and in the commercial train 2 personnel.
The injured have been transferred mainly to the two hospitals in Larissa, but also to hospitals in Katerinis, Volos and Thessaloniki. Many ambulances and mainly fire engines are still at the scene of the railway tragedy, along with EKAV forces and two EKAM teams from Larissa and Thessaloniki.
