Condolences to the families of the victims
The municipality of Chania participates in the three-day national mourning, with flags flying at half mast in all municipal buildings and the mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, in his message regarding the fatal train accident in Tempi, states: “We are deeply shocked by the magnitude of the disaster and the tragedy that unfolded in Tempe, leaving dozens dead and even more injured. And while the images from the scene of the accident cause unspeakable sadness and deep pain, our thoughts are with all those who today are grieving the death of a loved one. On behalf of the municipality of Chania, I want to express my condolences to the families of the victims and pass by to the injured.”
The municipality of Rethymno, participating in the pan-Hellenic mourning and with respect to the memory of the people who lost their lives so unjustly in the train accident in Tempe, informs the citizens that the Athlete’s Day scheduled for next Sunday, March 5, is postponed. The exact date of its completion will be announced with a later announcement. Also, due to the three days of national mourning for the tragedy in Tempi, the event planned for Friday, March 3, organized by the municipality of Chania and the Economic FORUM of Delphi, on the topic: “The OECD Center for the Populations in Crete”, has been postponed. The new date of the event will be announced with a later announcement.
For its part, the management of the Rethymnon Labor Center expresses its sorrow for yet another unspeakable tragedy that occurred in the deadly train accident in Tempi. It also expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, while looking forward to accountability and expressing the urgent need to finally take the necessary measures so that such tragic events do not happen again. In fact, as stated in a related announcement by the EKP, “…it should be noted that tragedies like the one that happened, should stop being used for petty political purposes by each side, but instead the political world as a whole should be strictly observed the Legislation on matters of Health and Safety at Work, in order to have safe conditions for everyone”.
On the occasion of the fatal accident in Tempi, which plunged the whole of Greece into mourning, the managing director of the Development Organization of Crete, Aris Papadogiannis, issued the following condolence statement: “Greece is mourning today. A national tragedy, which fills us all with pain and sadness. The images are not described. The management and staff of the Development Organization of Crete express their condolences to the families of the victims and their warmest wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.”
