The announcement of the Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Greece:
“The tragic train accident in Tempe plunged the whole country into heavy mourning. The Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Greece expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
Once again it is proven that shortages in personnel and modern logistical infrastructure, in any organization and especially in the field of transport, can be disastrous.
Fully aware of the above and with a sense of responsibility to maintain a high level of safety, we have repeatedly pointed out to all authorities the significant deficiencies in modern equipment and personnel that plague air traffic throughout time. We will continue to fight to implement as quickly as possible the necessary upgrades of critical systems and to hire a sufficient number of air traffic controllers to cope with the ever-increasing air traffic.
We hope that the latest sad accident will be a springboard for those responsible to take the necessary initiatives in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.”
