It seems that the 59-year-old station master of Larissa made a double mistake on the fateful day of the fatal train collision in Tempi.

As the days pass, more and more information is coming to light about what happened on that day where 57 people lost their lives. According to new information, the 59-year-old station master just one hour before the tragic accident with Intercity 62 and the commercial train had sent the suburban train of Larissa in the wrong direction. Specifically, when the suburban train full of passengers arrived at the Psalidi-Paliofarsalo point, the station master changed the key, causing the train to go on the wrong line. However, the train driver of the commuter train understands the station master’s mistake and as a result asks him to reverse the train and continue its course on the line it was on. However, the driver of Intercity 62 did not notice the same mistake.

“They were both wrong at the moment. One, the station master unknowingly had the train while he was waiting for the commercial one on the descent line, and the train driver did not make the announcement provided by the regulation: Train 62 from Larissa is entering the descent line to Litochoro” points out the former station master speaking to SKAI Volou, G. Black box detected

At the same time, investigations at the site of the collision are continuing, with the authorities having located the “black box”, but it is not known whether it is the passenger train or the commercial one.

The “black box” is expected to provide more information on the causes that led to the fatal collision such as information on the speed of the train, on whether the brakes were used and when, if the emergency brake was used and also on the mechanical condition of the wagons and the machine.

Expansion of the prosecutorial investigation
