In three years imprisonment for having committed a dangerous act he was sentenced today by the mixed sworn appeals court of the North Aegean, 35 years old permanent resident of Agiasos Lesvos. The convict had seriously injured on December 8, 2018, a 56-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant, causing permanent damage to his hand. At first instance, in November 2021, the mixed jury court of Chios sentenced him to seven years in prison without parole. He was arrested and has since been serving a prison sentence.

The immigrant from Bangladesh, a person particularly loved by the residents of Mytilini, has been working for many years in the outdoor area of a large supermarket, collecting customers’ trolleys and generally taking care of the area. In December 2018, he was attacked by the convicted and now on appeal, because he requested as part of his work not to park his car in the space intended for parking cars of disabled people.

The condemned had taken the remark as an insult, even claiming that he insulted his wife by looking at her. He took a metal crowbar from his car and injured the immigrant by hitting him in the arm. The immigrant was treated at the hospital where he underwent surgery while he was out of work for a long time. In fact, he also stopped working in olive picking, which he did alongside his other job before his injury.

The convicted was unanimously acquitted of the crimes of carrying weapons and using weapons for which he had been convicted at first instance, and by a majority of 4 to 3, his sentence was changed from attempted serious intentional harm to a committed dangerous act.
