Two foreigners, a 54-year-old and a 35-year-old, were arrested as part of the spontaneous procedure last Saturday morning (4/3) in Vathis Square, by police officers of the Anti-Trafficking Team of the Patrol Sub-Directorate of the Athens Police Directorate, for violating the National Customs Code.
In the context of investigating information regarding a woman who was selling contraband tobacco products, the two defendants were identified and their activity certified.
In particular, the 54-year-old woman was arrested inside a health care store for having 378 packs of cigarettes and 26 packs of tobacco, which did not have the indicative consumption tax tape, carefully hidden around the cash register.
Additionally, outside the store, a 35-year-old foreigner (a relative of the 54-year-old woman) was found next to a motorbike owned by him, inside which were found 10 packs of cigarettes and 1 pack of tobacco, which did not have the indicative consumption tax tape.
After a search in a side area used as a warehouse, an additional 10,490 packs of cigarettes and 247 packs of tobacco were found.
The arrested persons, with the case filed against them by the Omonia Security Department, were taken to the competent Prosecutor.
