The workers in ST.SY.deeply shocked by the train tragedy in Tempe, are escalating their mobilizations, demanding that real responsibilities be attributed to whoever is at the top, so that the crime of Tempe does not pass into oblivion and to reverse the policy of privatization, which puts the protection of of human life in the balance of cost.
We claim and fight for the recruitment of permanent and regular staff at STA.SY., the supply of all necessary spare parts and the restoration of all trains.
We believe that the Administration of STA.SY. must stop looking for ways to criminalize our struggles and seek dialogue with workers, take our observations seriously and promote solutions as soon as possible, so as to enhance the safety of fixed-track transport to the maximum extent.
We participate in the 24-hour strike of the Athens Labor Center on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, as well as in the rally that will take place on the same day in Syntagma Square at 1:00 p.m. To facilitate the attendance of the demonstrators at the gathering in Syntagma Square, we inform you that fixed track media will operate from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Train and commuter strike
They will remain immobilized until tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8 trains and commuter rail following the decisions of the Hellenic Train workers’ unions to continue the strike on the railway.
In particular, during yesterday’s meeting of the Hellenic Train employees’ unions (TRAINOSE Staff Employees Union, TRAINOSE Staff Union and Panhellenic Traction Staff Union with the OSE Panhellenic Union of Stationmasters) it was decided to continue the strike actions until Wednesday, March 8, 2023, stressing that “we are fighting for the safe circulation of trains but also for the truth to shine and for the culprits of the tragic train accident to be found, no matter how high up they are.”
“We demand from all the competent bodies”, declare the workers, “to proceed immediately to take the relevant measures, in order to restore safety on the Greek railway, with the aim of preventing our workers and fellow citizens from experiencing such a devastating tragedy again”.
No buses and trolleys on Wednesday
Buses and trolleys will remain stationary tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8, due to the 24-hour strike announced by the workers.
In its announcement, the OASA Workers’ Union calls on workers to attend the rally at 1:00 PM in Syntagma Square. “We demand safe and modern public transport and the taking of measures for the safety of workers and passengers” declare the workers.
Ships bound for Piraeus tomorrow
The Panhellenic Maritime Federation (PNO) has decided to declare a 24-hour strike for Wednesday 8/3/2023, in all categories of ships departing from the port of Piraeus, on the occasion of the railway tragedy in Tempi. The mobilization starts at 00.01 in the morning on Wednesday until 24.00 of the same day.
In its announcement, PNO states that “in the context of the strike mobilizations of the country’s workers for the national tragedy in Tempe, it has decided to declare a 24-hour Pan-Piraeus strike in all categories of ships…” demanding the full clarification of all aspects of collision of the two trains and taking all those measures required for safe land and sea transport and transport
Public strike
The Executive Committee of ADEDY, in accordance with the authorization of the General Council, decided on Monday to declare a 24-hour nationwide strike for Wednesday, March 8, 2023, “turning the work stoppage for International Women’s Day into a strike, to demand – together with all the workers and the people – to put an end to the policy of privatization and to assign the real responsibilities for the murderous crime of Tempe” is pointed out in a related announcement.

The Labor Center of Athens (EKA) announces a twenty-four-hour strike on March 8, 2023 and calls on all its member unions to participate en masse in the gatherings (1:00 p.m. in Syntagma Square).
With its announcement, the Athens Labor Center welcomes the tens of thousands of workers and youth who took part in the great Pallaic rally in Syntagma Square. “We are escalating our struggle, so that the real responsibilities are assigned, that the murderous crime of Tempe does not pass into oblivion, so that the anti-popular policy, which puts the protection of human life in the balance of costs, is uprooted. We strengthen the fight for the protection of human life, for modern and safe mass transport, against the policy that turns transport from a social good into a commodity, for health and safety measures in all workplaces”, points out the Athens Labor Center.
As he adds, “we claim and fight for the immediate adoption of safety measures on all fixed-track lines of the nationwide and urban railway network (OSE-STASY-TRAM), as well as on all urban passenger transport networks (OASA, OSY, OASTH, etc.) , by implementing security systems, regardless of the cost to businesses. The immediate consultation with the representatives of the workers for the implementation of health and safety policies in all workplaces, so that we do not witness a similar national tragedy in the future.
