Dozens of animal lovers with them quadrupeds their friends, welcomed today, at Grand opening of, the third fully equipped Municipal Dog Socialization and Sports Park created by the Municipality of Piraeus, in Dilaveri Park, in the 5th Municipal Community.

It is a special space, separated in two parts: one for large and one for small dogs, which inside the fenced area, can safely play freely, relax and exercise in the special structures placed in the area.

At the park sports games, climbing ramps, obstacles and tunnels have been installed. There are also canopies and benches for their companions.

Dog parks allow dogs, even in densely built-up neighbourhoods, to have their own exclusive spaces and keep them fit, contributing to their health and well-being.

It is recalled that, Municipality of Piraeus already operates two Municipal Dog Socialization and Sports Parks, the first at the junction of Chatzikyriakou Avenue and Botsari Street, in the 1st Municipal Community and the second in Papaspyrou Park, in the 4th Municipal Community.

It should be noted that the inauguration was followed by an impressive display of Coast Guard dogs by three K-9 substance detection teams.

The Municipality of Piraeus will create four more dog parks.

Specifically, in the following points:

  1. Freattydos Beach (1st Municipal Community)
  2. Karaoli & Filonos (2nd Municipal Community)
  3. Yiannopoulou – Zervos N. Faliro (3rd Municipal Community)
  4. Agia Sotira (4th Municipal Community)

The Municipal Dog Park isi open daily and weekends, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Mayor of Piraeus Mr. Yannis Moraliswho attended the opening with his family, emphasized in his greeting:

“I would like to thank all of you who are attending the opening of the third Municipal Dog Socialization and Exercise Park today. We are very satisfied and I would like to thank Deputy Mayor Antonia Karakatsani for this beautiful initiative that she implements together with her partners and the animal welfare associations in Piraeus, who have helped significantly. In recent years we have made significant strides for both dogs and cats and there is still more to do. We have planned the creation of four more parks and have other plans for dogs and cats, regarding sterilization, vaccinations and the supply of dry food. The people of Piraeus are animal lovers, they have pets, dogs or cats and we are happy that many people are already visiting the dog parks, as they now have at their disposal safe, fenced and specially designed areas for the daily walk of our four-legged friends”.

The Deputy Mayor for Environment and Greenery Ms Antonia Karakatsaniin her greeting, pointed out:

“I want to thank everyone who is present today at the opening of the third dog park, in the Dilaveri park. Openings will follow in four other parks. We offer daily dry food for stray animals to all Municipal Communities of the city. At the same time, we are waiting for a neutering program, which will start soon. Today, DI.KE.P.A.Z. is with us, which has brought dogs for adoption. I would like to ask the citizens to respect and pay attention to this area as well.”

The third Municipal Dog Park was also attended by the MPs Mr. Yannis Melas and Nikos Manolakos, the Deputy Governor of the Islands Mr. Stavros Voidonikolas, the Deputy Mayor Mr. Dimitris Karydis, Dimitris Arapis and Ms. Athena Glyka – Harvalakou, the Community Councilors Mr. Dimitris Pefanis and Vassilis Skandalis, the President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Giorgos Papamanolis-Dozas, the President of the Union of Criminal Lawyers and Fighting Lawyers, Mr. Yannis Glykas, the President of PESYDAP, Mr. Grigoris Gourdomichalis, employees of the Environment and Greenery Department and a crowd of people .
