Every March the Alzheimer Society of Athens symbolically celebrates Carer’s Day, giving space to the voice of carers – the people who have stood by their loved ones, suffering from dementia for years – to be heard.

Caregivers bear an unbearable burden every day, due to the constant strain, mental and physical burden, social isolation, professional and financial disempowerment, resulting from caring for people with dementia and are in constant need of scientific support, guidance, communication and educational services.
The Alzheimer Society of Athens has been trying to cover these needs in practice, with many different initiatives and activities, for the last 20 years.

This March, however, the Company will not only once again proclaim its moral support, but will also celebrate the beginning of a new, better era. As a continuation of its continuous efforts to meet the multiple needs of people with dementia and their caregivers, the Alzheimer Society of Athens immediately begins the operation of four new Day Centers: three in the Region of Attica and the fourth in the city of Arta.

These new projects – funded by the Ministry of Health and the Recovery Fund – are located in large municipalities, in Piraeus, Heraklion Attica, Aspropyrgos Attica and Arta, in order to serve people with dementia and their families, without having to to move away from their place of residence.

These are key municipalities on the Athenian and Greek map, so that they can also serve residents of neighboring areas. The new Day Centers, fully staffed with health professionals. they will have an additional important advantage: a Mobile Unit, which will enable the Center’s scientific team to intervene, with home visits, in Health Centers and rural Dispensaries, extending care to cases where it is not possible to move, creating as well as a bridge to other Health and Social Care services.

So this year, for the first time, the events of the Alzheimer Society of Athens for the Caregiver’s Day will take place in three places – in Athens, Piraeus and Arta – so that the scientific potential of the Society can be close to many more people, patients and caregivers who struggle with dementia.

It is a series of interactive meetings, where panels of experts in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease will pay attention and dedication to the problems of caregivers and will try to answer their questions about the disease and their daily lives. the people.

The events will take place on the following days, starting at 17:30:
