What documents does the company request from the relatives – How will the amounts be paid
Hellenic Train announced the advance payments and the method of their payment for the families of the victims of the tragedy in Tempi.

In the context of the given decision of the Management of Hellenic Train to pay advances to cover the immediate financial needs, both of the families of the deceased passengers of the railway accident of passenger train IC 62 of February 28, 2023, and of the injured passengers of the same accident, without this in any way constituting an acceptance of responsibility on the part of the company in accordance with the provisions of European Regulation 1371/2007, but both for reasons of particular social sensitivity and taking into account the European Legislation and Practice in similar railway accidents, the procedure and the payment details of the relevant advances as follows:
Hellenic Train will pay:
– To the families of the deceased passengers, an advance payment of € 42,000.00
-To the injured passengers, regardless of the severity of the injury, an advance payment of (a) €5,000.00 if on the date of this announcement they are not hospitalized in any hospital or clinic and (b) €10,000.00 if on the date of this announcement they remain hospitalized in any nursing institution or clinic and for the purpose of meeting the immediate financial needs of all of the above despite the fact that European Legislation does not provide for a specific minimum advance payment amount.
-To the families of the dead, the injured and the other passengers of the overhead train at the time of the accident, compensation in the amount of €300.00 for all their luggage, including hand luggage, personal items and animals.
For the payment of the above amounts, in order to simplify and speed up the procedures, the beneficiaries should provide Hellenic Train with the following supporting documents:
1. Beneficiaries of death advances should provide an original or a legally certified copy of a Next of kin Certificate. It is sufficient for one of the persons mentioned in the above Certificate to provide this, by signing a Responsible Declaration either deemed by KEP or issued through gov.gr that he is acting on behalf of the other relatives mentioned in the above Certificate as well as any other possible legal heir.
2. Beneficiaries of advance payments due to injury are sufficient if they are included in the official lists of injured and present (a) either a Police Identity Card or any other public identification document (e.g. passport, driver’s license, etc.), (b) a document certifying their TIN and AMKA and (c) a document admitting them to a nursing institution or clinic, as well as any discharge and (d) their ticket, if it exists.
3. In relation to hand luggage, personal belongings and animals, beneficiaries need only present either a Police Identity Card (ID) or any other public identification document (e.g. passport, driver’s license), as well as the ticket, if available
Beneficiaries of all the above categories can submit any supporting document required by the above in the form of a certified photocopy to the special electronic service for this purpose – special electronic address for receiving requests: [email protected] together with their full contact details (name, address, e-mail e-mail address, telephone).
In addition to all the above, Hellenic Train has created a special team, which, based on the existing situations of the beneficiaries of all the above categories, will undertake the management of the requests of the individual beneficiaries to facilitate the implementation of all the above measures.
Finally, it is noted that despite the fact that human life cannot be valued in any monetary provision, the decision of the Company, of the above advances exceeds the minimum obligations provided for the railway company by the number 1371/2007 European Regulation regarding the rights and obligations of passengers, railway lines., According to article 13 of European Regulation 1371/2007 (EC), the payment of advances (and only) by the railway company in the event of injury or death of a passenger, which concerns to cover immediate financial needs. The said advance payment cannot be less than the amount of €21,000, in the event of the death of a passenger, while in the case of an injury to a passenger, the obligation to pay an advance payment to the injured passenger is provided for, but no minimum amount of advance payment is defined. Also, it is expressly pointed out that, in accordance with the above article 13 of the said Regulation, the said advance does not in any case constitute recognition of any liability of the railway company. It is noted that the scope of the above provision (Article 13 EC 1371/2007) does not include the category of uninjured passengers.
