Police officers of the General Police Directorate of the region proceeded to arrest 14 people in various areas of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, as part of the implementation of special actions and targeted controls to prevent and deal with delinquency.

Specifically, as stated in today’s relevant police announcement, police officers from the Directorates of Immediate Action, Police and Security of Thessaloniki arrested six people for violating the law on addictive substances – quantities of cannabis and heroin were seized -, three others for cases of theft and the same number of managers of health stores for noise pollution and two because they were found to have pending convictions for various offences. “Police checks continue systematically and on a daily basis,” the police announcement points out.

Strong blow to organized trafficking rings

Police officers of the General Affairs Department of the Narcotics Prosecution Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate have dealt a powerful blow to the organized circuits of trafficking in large quantities of addictive substances, following the thorough investigation and coordinated actions they carried out.

In particular, as stated in today’s police announcement, two foreigners, members of the ring, a 42-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were arrested yesterday afternoon, against whom a case file was filed for violation of the drug law and criminal organization.

In a check carried out by the police in a private passenger vehicle in the area of ​​Stavroupoli, which was driven by the 42-year-old, 34 bales of cannabis with a total weight of 35 kg and 692 grams were found.

During the search that followed in his house, but also in the house of the 44-year-old woman, in the same area, 34 bales of cannabis with a total weight of 38 kg and 117 grams, a precision electronic scale, materials for drug packaging, 820 euros and two cell phones they used for their illegal transactions. In addition, two private passenger cars used by the perpetrator to transport the narcotics were confiscated.

From the investigation carried out, it emerged that those arrested were members of an international ring importing large quantities of cannabis from Albania and their role was to receive, transport, conceal and further traffic the quantities of cannabis.

Those arrested will be taken to the competent prosecutor.
