An unexpected surprise awaited the Principal of LT Chalkis High School Nikos Tsattalios in the previous days, according to the Rodiaki newspaper, as when he went to the Directorate of Secondary Education of Dodecanese, in the school’s mailbox was found an envelope marked “For the Mayor of Chalkis”, clearly written by a child’s hand.

In his letter, the 6-year-old wrote the following:

“Dear Mayor,

On Maundy Monday I had flown a kite and sent it….accidentally to Halki.

If you see him, send him to Christos Tripolitis.

Signature(!) Raphael Tripolitis”

The signatory is 6-year-old Raphael who comes from Halki, with his father Christos working at the D.D.E Dodecanese.

On Holy Monday he had flown his kite from Kamiro Skala, until the accident happened.

In the end, it was only by chance that the eagle did not fly to Halki.

The Mayor of Chalkis, Mr. Evangelos Fragakis, responded with a letter to the 6-year-old:

“My dear Raphael,

Your message filled me with joy and optimism!

I am sure that your beautiful kite was over our Halki and after looking at it for a long time, it continued its journey to far away places in our Greece.

It is definitely the most traveled and stubborn kite I have seen in my life.

Usually the eagles are blown away by the wind and end up tangled in a tree.

But yours decided to take a huge trip.

To explore our Greece and its unique islands from end to end.

If he passes through Halki again, at the return of his route, I promise you that I will bring him down from heaven and deliver him to you.

Keep dreaming and don’t put boundaries in your thoughts and mind.

Y. S. Know, my Raphael, that the Chalki Eagles like you fly very high in their lives!

With special love

Your friend

Mayor of Chalkis
