Guarded at the 424 Military Hospital of Thessaloniki, the 62-year-old is being treated as he was locked in a car with his 2.5-year-old twin children, where he opened a gas bottle with which he seems to have attempted to harm both the minors and himself.

The unprecedented incident took place on Sunday evening in Melissochori, Thessaloniki, and was noticed by his ex-wife and mother of the twins (a boy and a girl) who called the “Immediate Action” of EL.AS.

A patrol car from the Soho Police Station immediately arrived at the scene and the crew members broke the windshield of the car, freeing the children and their father. The timely intervention of the police prevented the worst, as the strong stench in the cabin of the vehicle had rendered the underage twins in a semi-conscious state.

They were transported by EKAV ambulance to the “Ippokrateio” General Hospital, where they are being treated out of danger. A police officer of the above crew also felt discomfort and had to be given first aid.

The 62-year-old – according to information, he is a former Air Force officer – he was also taken to a hospital in a semi-conscious state with his health not in danger.

From the police investigation that followed in the car, it was established that in the trunk there was also a second gas bottle which, however, unlike the first, was secured.

A case file is being filed against the 62-year-old, while the preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Life Crimes Department of the Thessaloniki Police Department.
