“It is an absolute priority for 2022 the safety of students and teachers in all universities in the country,” said Takis Theodorikakos, and stressed that on January 17 begins the training of 400 recruited to the Greek Police as Protection Institutions of University Institutions, while the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on his part underlined: “Violence and any act related to damage to public property is something that is not allowed.”
Mr. Theodorikakos also stressed that the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police have close cooperation with all university institutions in the country, while both men made special reference to the police intervention to evacuate the multi-year occupation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on New Year’s Eve.
“At the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki we did the obvious, ending a situation of 34 years that created a serious problem in the operation of the University”, said Mr. Theodorikakos and added: “It is an absolute priority for 2022 the safety of students and teachers, so universities to be functional places of education and freedom. The rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki stated: “In the area, which was closed for 34 years, a large library will be created in the School of Sciences, which will be given to students, researchers. I discussed with the Minister the strengthening of our cooperation, which is based on the logic of the free circulation of ideas, of free discussion within the university premises, knowing that violence and any act related to the destruction of public property is something that is not allowed. ».
It is noted that the 400 recruits will do their four-month training in the police schools of Komotini and then will undertake service based on the security plans submitted by the universities, as provided by law.
According to ministry sources, in order for this process to proceed quickly, Mr. Theodorikakos will have meetings with the rectors and other university institutions.
