At this meeting, hoteliers, travel agencies and NGO representatives proposed places of natural interest in the Smolyan region for inclusion in the routes
New tourist routes to natural attractions in the Rhodope Mountains will be created and easily accessible to the general public under the Bulgarian-Greek program “Smart Marketing Strategies for Tourism in the Cross-Border Area”, which is financed through the Cross-Border Cooperation program Interreg VA Greece – Bulgaria 2014-2020. The news was announced during a working meeting on the program hosted by the regional administration of Smolyan, in southern Bulgaria, on Wednesday.
At this meeting, hoteliers, travel agencies and NGO representatives proposed places of natural interest in the Smolyan region for inclusion in the routes.
The development of at least five new routes aims to attract tourists from the flow of passing travelers. A study shows that most of the tourists who choose to visit the Smolyan region are attracted by the cultural, historical and natural attractions. About 80% of them collect information from social media.
Future routes may attract Romanian tourists going to Greece or migrant workers moving south in the summer.
A strategy for the development of tourism in the area of Smolyan will be drawn up in the framework of this programme. The main partner of the program is the Greek Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Beneficiaries in Bulgaria are the regional administrations in Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan.
