In the arrest of three persons who are accused, as the case may be, of violations of the law on the protection of antiquities and the law on weaponsproceeded the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Property Rights, Cultural Heritage and Environment of the Attica Security Directorate

In particular, according to ELAS, after using information about the possession of ancient objects by people who had planned meetings for their sale, an operation was carried out yesterday afternoon, Sunday, March 26, in an area of ​​Corinthia, during which two Greeks, aged 42 and 56, and a 35-year-old Romanian were arrested.

What did the investigations find?

From the physical searches, as well as from searches of homes, workplaces and vehicles, the following were found and seized:

  • 8 clay pots,
  • 7 clay vessels,
  • 5 clay tablets,
  • 3 clay lykyths,
  • clay objects (lamp, scyphos, shell, amphora, disk),
  • clay figurines,
  • winemaker,
  • lead and metal object,
  • 19 ancient coins,
  • 17 coins of Roman times and
  • bust, shield-shaped part, decorative object, ring and 300 coins, which will be examined by competent echelons to determine whether they fall within the provisions of the antiquities protection law.

In addition, the following were found and seized:

  • 3 firearms,
  • air gun,
  • cartridges,
  • sword,
  • 2 swords,
  • 4 wands,
  • metal detectors,
  • endoscopic device,
  • tablet,
  • electronic meter,
  • 2 antennas,
  • digging tools,
  • clothing and 3 bags,
  • drones and
  • military helmet.

The confiscated archaeological objects will be handed over for safekeeping and final assessment to a competent Archaeological Museum.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority, while investigations to identify those further involved continue.
