In February, 22-year-old Dionysis Abdiaei rushed into a burning semi-basement in Lamia and literally saved a 1.5-year-old boy from the flames at the last moment (see here).

According to the report of LamiaReport, the Prime Minister had then read about the act of self-sacrifice of the 22-year-old and, coming to Lamia, asked to see him in person to congratulate him.

At the meeting, Dionysis told Kyriakos Mitsotakis that he wants to become a fireman, while many times at night he dreams of the incident with the fire in the apartment with the child.

Dionysis Abdiais, is of Albanian origin, born and raised in Lamia, where he lives and works in a workshop. He had recently been honored for his heroic act by the Metropolitan of Fthiotida, with the medal of Saint Vissarion of Agathonite.

The Chronicles

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Dionysis, returning home from work, heard calls for help. When he arrived at the scene, neighbors informed him that a toddler was trapped inside the burning semi-basement, while earlier his two brothers and their grandmother had managed to get out.

The 22-year-old without a second thought took off his jacket and rushed into the flames and smoke, managing to save the little boy.

The semi-basement apartment was completely destroyed and as the firefighters, who arrived a little later, said, if the 22-year-old Dionysis had not freed the baby, the child would have been burned since the flames had reached right next to him.
