Dr. Dionysia Dimitropoulou, the pediatrician who found Georgina dead, vividly described everything that happened on the afternoon of April 11, 2021, reliving for another day the tragic moments the child lived through.

“I have never seen a child die like this, be well and die suddenly,” emphasized the doctor.

The witness also referred to the moment when the mother notified the doctors to go to the child’s ward. “I expected him to scream, to shout. Other parents clamor for simpler. She just told us to go to the room because the oximeter is beeping”

The doctor’s testimony

My involvement with Georgina was during my shifts on 9 and 11/4. On the first day, at 2:00 p.m., because the mother reported that she had a cough with a tendency to vomit and difficulty breathing, the specialist went into the room and examined Georgina. On examination he said she was a bit pale, had a cough and abdominal pain. I went into the room and examined the child myself and the symptoms had subsided. I found them to be free of pathological findings. I told the kid to continue to have a condition and not to eat and to be re-tested and to put an oximeter on the kid.

After this examination Georgina remained stable in good condition, until 6 pm when the mother told us that the child developed a cough and abdominal pain.
I myself examined the child immediately and the symptoms had subsided and the examination did not detect anything.
At 8 in the evening I examined the child again and I did not find anything, he was fine.
At 9pm I left and told my colleagues to call me if something came up, but nothing came of it.
At 8 am on Saturday morning I spoke to a colleague on the phone and he informed me that Georgina at 3 o’clock in the evening was vomiting and had mild sensitivity in the abdomen.
On 11/4 I saw what a child shortly after 5 pm. I entered the room and the child was stable well, I saw the oximeter and all values were stable.

About 7 o’clock while I was in the doctors office with the interns. The mother knocked on the office door which was opened by a specialist. She answered “come to the room because the oximeter is beeping” me and the intern were walking in the room, with a normal pace.

Taking the first steps from the door of the room, our nurse started shouting “run quickly”.

I ran into the room and saw the following. The child was in the middle of the bed without the nasal oxygen and the oximeter was showing no reading.

I ask the mother how the child got to this state. “He woke up making a sound, rolled his eyes and twitched his limbs,” she told me.

I found the child pale, he had no breathing, no contractions, he had mydriasis of the eyes and he had a loss of urine.

I brought the child to the resuscitation position and started CPR while I strengthened the oxygen supply to 100% and started chest massages and they brought me AMBOU continuously while at the same time that I started these I asked for the anesthesiologist to be informed and to come.

I performed CPR continuously and continuously until Mr. Hasapopoulos arrived. I was constantly trying with all my might. At the same time, I intermittently administered adrenaline until Mr. Hasapopoulos came and he took over and I helped him.

The child was not coming back, the resuscitation lasted 45-50′ until the recovery of the child’s contractions. Then the child began to take its own breaths and her eyes narrowed again.

CHAIRPERSON: When you entered the room was the oximeter in the child’s hand?
Witness: Madam President, with the image of the child I saw, I focused on the child. I’m sure he had no clue why he was whistling. But I’m not entirely sure if it was on the child’s finger. The oximeter beeps when it does not make good contact, if it is not in the child’s hand, or if the child is dead.

Chairman: You said the nasal oxygen didn’t have it. What does this mean;
Witness: The tubes were completely out of the child’s head, they were behind the child’s head, they were completely out. Behind the head of the child was.

PROSECUTOR: Was another child being treated in the ward where Georgina was being treated?
Witness: No, she was alone. There is another room next door but they are independent. It has a door. To exit the session of the other room he does not go through Georgina’s chamber, he goes through the corridor. They are independent rooms.

“I expected her to scream…”

In: You said that the accused came to the doctors office. But she denies it in her testimony and says that you were confused…
Mart: I was in my office with the interns. I remember it 100%. Otherwise how did we get to the ward?
Ins: When the nurse went into the room did she face the child like you did?
Mart: Of course! After shouting “run, run fast!” He saw the child like this and was frightened.
In: The mother says on the one hand the oximeter is dropping and the nurse says come he’s dead. What might have changed?
Mart: I can’t know. But the way he informed me.. he would expect to be screaming, yelling down the hall! To shout! Other parents do this for much simpler things!

Es: How much time does it take for a child to come to this state?
Mart: For us, this was something inexplicable. It was sudden, unexpected, we can’t justify how it ended up in the situation we found it. I would expect there to be a worsening of symptoms… Usually the worsening is hours. The child had no symptoms and suddenly called us and we found a dead child.

Ins: Have you seen this before?
TMart: I have never seen such a sudden incident in my many years of career. I have never experienced this suddenness before! Never! To be called by the mother to a stable child and to see him suddenly dead!

CIVIL EDUCATION: you said that you saw Georgina that afternoon before the episode at about 5 o’clock or something… so you are telling us that from 5 o’clock you did not see anything in the child that could be disturbed.

Mart: I want to add that the specialist who saw her at about 6 told me that the child was fine! It was very good! And let me tell you that I had requested the recording of the vital signs on Friday. And on the 6th there was also a recording of vital signs and everything was fine as well.
