ADMIE will be able to proceed with short-term restrictions on electricity imports – Care is taken to maintain sufficient electrical space for adequate reserves at all times
Cooperation and coordination between ADMIE and DEDDIE under the supervision of RAE for the management of high RES production in periods of low electricity consumption, such as the one we are going through, was agreed in a teleconference of representatives of the three agencies that took place today.
As pointed out, the high production of RES combined with the low demand observed due to weather conditions in spring, autumn or during holidays creates conditions of instability in the electrical system. To prevent such phenomena, RES production cuts were agreed by both ADMIE and DEDDIE, depending on the capabilities of each Operator, which will be carried out more during hours of intense sunshine and/or strong winds during spring and autumn. characterized by particularly low demand for electricity, such as the upcoming holidays.
In addition, if deemed necessary, ADMIE will be able to proceed with short-term restrictions on electricity imports, after consultation with the neighboring managers.
Finally, care is taken to maintain at all times enough electrical space for sufficient reserves from conventional units that will ensure the stable operation of the System.
According to the relevant information,:
-During the teleconference, ADMIE officials described in detail the current particularly difficult operating conditions of the System and the measures implemented by the Administrator to deal with the challenges amid the rapidly increasing RES penetration. ADMIE already has sufficient methodology and reliable systems for the management of renewable electricity generation, while it has implemented the Energy Transition Projects Program.
– The executives of DEDDIE respectively described the existing possibilities of cuts in Medium and Low Voltage, and pointed out that the Distribution Network Operator will immediately proceed with the development of additional tools for the management of electricity generation from RES. It was agreed that a rejection of the production potential of RES Stations will be implemented, with the size of power and duration of disconnection to be determined by the relevant orders of the ADMIE.
Whenever deemed necessary, RAE will convene the Crisis Management Team, with the participation of the two Administrators, for regular monitoring and control of the situation. It was also decided to make all the necessary changes to the regulatory framework in order to anticipate these new conditions presented in the System.
Finally, all parties agreed that with the coordinated management of the problem by all co-competent agencies, the situation is brought under control to ensure the shielding of the electrical system in conditions of low consumption and high RES production.
