He died at the age of 81 singer Rena Koumiotisone of its most important representatives new wave.

On the Rena Koumioti Official Facebook page it is stated: “Rena Koumioti is no longer with us. “He left” today at dawn, Monday, April 3, 2023, after two months of a personal battle with life. But the great performer will always live among us with her songs. Those of us who had the greatest honor, to experience her up close, got to know her ethos, soul, modesty and dignity. A great lady is “gone” but she will always be here… That’s not how the hands of the clock stop…».

Who was Rena Koumiotis?

Rena Koumioti was born in Athens, in Nea Ionia on May 3, 1941. Her parents were refugees. Her father Smyrnios, her mother Constantinopolitissa.

In 1968 he worked at “Apanemia” together with Manolis Mitsias, who had just come down from Thessaloniki. It hadn’t been a month since she started working at the store and one evening Lefteris Papadopoulos heard her and suggested that she sing with Yiannis Poulopoulos on the album “o Dromos” that they were preparing together with Mimi Plessas.

The first song he sang was “Give me your mouth” the well-known “swallow”. And then “First time”. From “Apanemia” he suddenly finds himself working with Yannis Poulopoulos, Stratos Dionysiou and Lefteris Mytilineos in “Kan-Kan”. In the same year at the theater “REX” in the theater “Dromos”. They follow in the discography “Stop the hands of the clock”, “Light up my new moon” by Mimi Plessas, and participated in the records “Hours” and “Thalsssino phylli” by Linos Kokotos. Next summer again with Poulopoulos in “Athinaia”. And then in “Deilina” for three seasons. From October 1970 to 1972. Grigoris Bithikotsis, Stamatis Kokotas, Christakis and George Zampetas were also there. In 1972, he collaborated with Giorgos Dalaras at the Bournelis Theater. After “Twilight” he went to “Fantasia”. Again with Poulopoulos in Plaka, then again at “Kan-Kan” with Dionysiou and Zambeta. In 1974 she went to work in Canada where she met and married her second husband. In 1983 he returned to Greece and appeared again with Giannis Poulopoulos, Gina Spiliotopoulou and the Athenian company in “Zygo”. Then in “Sunsets” with Zambeta and Mary Linda and in “Stars” with Kokota. For two consecutive years at the “Marquise” yacht. In 1995 he collaborates with Mimi Plessas.
