In a shocking manner and with continuous interruptions due to strong emotional charge, the 31-year-old defendant, who was found guilty in the first instance of the murder, began his statement on Monday morning at the Three-member Court of Appeal of Chania of 32-year-old Giorgos Xylouris and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

This is the case of the double murderer in Anogia in May 2020, when the accused’s father, lefteris Kalomiris, 62 years old, was murdered due to minor real estate disputes. The second murder followed, with the 31-year-old currently accused as the perpetrator and the 32-year-old George Xylouris as the victim.
“I am not a murderer by choice,” he said characteristically. “I have responsibility. I saw my father dead, an image that still haunts me today, and without a second thought I pulled the trigger. But that doesn’t represent my character,” he added.

Since the morning, members of both families are in the area of the Courts, in different places in the presence of a strong police force.
The court adjourned until April 28.
