Vatopoulos in SKAI: The behavior of the virus is chaotic – I bet the opening of schools

by

Alkiviadis Vatopoulos, a professor of Microbiology at the University of West Attica and a member of the Committee of Experts, described the opening of the schools as a “bet” on Monday, January 10, speaking to SKAI’s news bulletin.

“There was a strong will from everyone to open schools. “It is a difficult decision, a bet, it has a risk, but we have to take it and the situation will be evaluated almost every day,” he said.

Asked why the Commission maintained the protocol for the closure of the departments with 50% + 1 of the cases, he clarified that the Commission did not deal with this issue at all and that it was a government decision.

Commenting on the scenarios for the spread of the Delta mutation, he pointed out that “the behavior of the virus can be characterized as chaotic, because it is very difficult to make predictions. There is a general model that says that as the virus evolves, more contagious variants prevail and possibly fewer pathogens. However, it is extremely difficult to make predictions.

However, he was optimistic that a large part of the population is immune to the serious disease, however, given the contagiousness of Omicron, he advised citizens to protect themselves by vaccination, mask, avoiding coloration.
