Within one day they defrauded three people from Corinth, six hoteliers from Alonissos and emptied their bank accounts.

A man called the hoteliers and stated that he was a well-known colleague from the island, but because he had no rooms he referred his clients to their own hotels.

In fact, the fraudster who used the name of the well-known businessman, told his colleagues that the payment of the room charge would be made directly from his own account as he would in fact rent the rooms to serve his clients.

The “machine was set up” and the fraudster, while he had to deposit for a charge of 150 euros, for example, called the hotelier and declared that he made a mistake and deposited 1,500 euros.

He promoted by mail and a fake copy of a deposit from a bank and received back the extra 150 euros money.

From the first hotelier he stole with this method 1,260 euros for an alleged reservation of 140 euros, from the second 4,200 euros for a reservation of 475 euros, from the third 4,500 euros for a reservation of 500 euros, from the fourth 2,700 euros for a reservation of 300 euros, from the fifth 4,275 euros for a reservation of 475 euros and from the sixth 4,300 euros for a reservation of 450 euros.

All the money was transferred to the joint account of the 64-year-old fraudster and his two accomplices, a 40-year-old man from Patras and a 38-year-old woman from Corinth.

The scam happened in 2019.

The 38-year-old who was present in court was sentenced to 4 years suspended and denied knowing about the fraud.

The 64-year-old mastermind was sentenced in absentia to six years without parole and is wanted for prison and the 38-year-old was sentenced to 4 years.
