Another first, the small sandy island of Halki takes the lead in “green” practices.

The Mayor Evangelos Fragakispresented the recent acquisition of Halkis, which is none other than the electric patrol car that easily enters the Guinness book, as it is the smallest in the world.

Mr Fragakis, who is a former police officer, speaking to ERT jokingly said “when you call 100, we call 50”, explaining that the electric vehicle is part of the initiative “GR-eco islands” of the government, showing at the same time the corresponding vehicle with which the Coast Guard has also been equipped.

“Little by little, we are trying to convert the entire fleet of vehicles circulating on the island into electric vehicles” added the mayor of the island, who is proud that Halki is the first island to be energy independent thanks to the photovoltaic park.

Halki is rightly characterized as “green island” as it has expressed interest in participating in a European program for the production of energy from waves.

“You realize how important this is not only for Halki but also for Greece, but also for all of Europe, if we manage to generate energy from the waves” the mayor emphasized

Halki is energy self-sufficient thanks to the photovoltaic park it has acquired and aims soon for all vehicles that will be circulating on the island’s roads to be electric. Even the patrol car has lately the island is very different from the usual ones. A “pocket” patrol car that does not go unnoticed in the places it appears.
