The positivity for the SARS-CoV2 virus continues to increase, while the number of new intubations in the week of April 3-9 also increased. According to the weekly epidemiological report of the EODY on viral infections of the respiratory system (SARS-CoV-2, influenza viruses and respiratory syncytial virus-RSV), there was also an increase in flu positivity in the community, while one new death was reported.

SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection: The positivity in all tested samples showed an increase compared to the previous week. The number of admissions for COVID-19 remained at the same level as the previous week, while showing a decrease of 6% compared to the average weekly number of new admissions over the previous 4 weeks. The number of new intubations showed an increase over the previous week and a 16% increase over the average weekly number of new intubations over the previous 4 weeks. The number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection is 69. There were 44 deaths with a median age of 81.5 years (range 61-99 years). In recent weeks all sequenced strains belonged to the Omicron sub-variants BA.2 and BA.5, with BA.2 predominating. The sub-variant BQ.1.1 was the most frequent sub-variant of BA.5 (81%). The most frequent BA.2 sub-variant was XBB.1.5 (74%), followed by BA.2.75 sub-variant (18%).

Viral load surveillance in urban wastewater showed an increase in SARSCoV-2 virus circulation in 2 of the 10 areas tested.

Influenza virus: Influenza positivity in the community showed an increase in sentinel samples. No new severe case of laboratory-confirmed influenza with ICU hospitalization was recorded, while one new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza was reported. A total of 67 people with influenza were hospitalized in the ICU since the beginning of the influenza surveillance and 25 deaths were recorded. Also, 342 samples positive for influenza viruses (sentinel samples and hospital samples) were recorded in the two influenza reference centers, of which 286 (84%) were type A strains and 56 (16%) were type B strains. influenza type B virus.

Influenza syndromes (regardless of pathogen): A decrease compared to the previous week was recorded in the community.

Respiratory syncytial virus-RSV: Positivity remained low.
