The woman who had passed the protective railings of the bridge of Olympias Odos, at the level of the Aegio Municipal Stadium, was threatening to fall into the void. A policeman literally saves her at the last moment
“I’ll fall, don’t come close, I’ve made my decision”, the woman who was in the “air” at noon on Tuesday, having passed the protective railings of the Olympia Street bridge, at the level of the Aegio Municipal Stadium, said and repeated to the policemen of the Aegialia Police Department.
It was 1:20 p.m. when, passing by, she saw the 58-year-old woman pass the bars and immediately notified the Police. The commander of the Aegialia Police Department, police deputy director Vassilis Rodopoulos and the bicyclists of DIAS, Vassilis Rodopoulos (chief constable) and Konstantinos Pikoulas (constable) rushed to the scene.
They approached her and started talking to her, in their attempt to convince her, but also to gain time, as an ELAS negotiator from Patras had already been called. “You are not changing my mind, I have my reasons”, repeated the woman who seemed not to cooperate, not even with the negotiator Ioannis Vangelis.
What seemed to preoccupy her, according to information from the “Peloponnisos” newspaper, was the bag she had with her handed over to her daughter. The traffic of vehicles in the direction of Patras was interrupted with the firefighters having installed the special layer.
Lifesaving operation
The minutes passed and everyone’s adrenaline “hit” red. The woman says goodbye to the police and asks them to hand over the bag to her child. She lets go of her hands… and then in a flash the chief constable Rodopoulos he hugs her and “holds” her on the bridge. At the same time, the commander of AT Aegialia and the other police officer of DIAS operate. Their intervention proved lifesaving for the 58-year-old. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., the woman was picked up by an EKAV ambulance and taken to the psychiatric clinic of the University General Hospital of Patras, where she remains for hospitalization.
According to exclusive information of “P”, in her bag a handwritten note was found, in which she explained the reasons she wanted to end her life.
The 58-year-old, who is reportedly facing serious health problems, left her home in Stafidalona and reached the bridge on foot.
