In a landfill had turned a stream in Pieria, a company that dumped its waste into a stream that ends up in Thermaic Gulf.
A case was filed against a 59-year-old man for environmental pollutionfrom the police of Thessaloniki.
In particular, the environmental inspectors and police officers, who performed an autopsy in the area, found that liquid waste and animal by-products had been thrown into the stream.
During the sampling of liquid waste from the exit of the company’s biological treatment in a neighboring stream, the following emerged – according to an announcement: the company proceeded during the two years 2020/21 to dispose of insufficiently treated (without chlorination/disinfection) liquid waste, in uncontrolled disposal more than 4,000 tons of animal by-products (in violation of the terms of the relevant AEPO) and more than 125 tons of sludge (in violation of the terms of the relevant AEPO).
“The result of the above actions was the continuous pollution and degradation of the environment, i.e. the negative impact on the ecological balance, the quality of life, the health of the inhabitants, the living organisms and the ecosystem”, as is characteristically stated in the same announcement.
The relative case file will be submitted to the competent prosecuting authority.
