On the occasion of World Book Day, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, emphasizes that “in an era of great social restructuring, sweeping technological developments and cultural rearrangements, reading can become a constant in the upheaval, a thread that connects us with the others, a path to inner freedom”, while at the same time referring to the loss of Myrsini Zorba, underlining that she “passionately believed that the book can change the world”.

In particular, in her post on Facebook, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou states:

“Tomorrow, World Book Day, we celebrate a multidimensional intellectual good, a vehicle of culture, creativity and education, a capacitor of intellectual, economic, social, symbolic capital. It celebrates its space, as a place of fruitful meetings and essential circulation of ideas and feelings. Its people celebrate, publishers and booksellers, authors, editors, proofreaders, illustrators, printers, solitary readers and bibliophile communities, private and public libraries. Thus, the loss of persons like Myrsini Zorba, among others co-founder of the precious “Odysseus” publications, first director of the National Book Center, later Minister of Culture, an intellectual who passionately believed that the book can change the world In an age of great social restructuring, sweeping technological developments, and cultural rearrangements, reading can become a constant in the upheaval, a thread that connects us to others, a path to inner freedom.”
