Alexis Kougias, asked the court to be examined with Mr. Iliadis, in order to clarify whether the defendant’s claim that the intensivist had referred to Karamandanios’ delayed reaction to Georgina’s objection is true – something that the witness himself denied
To be cross-examined Roula Pispirigou with intensivist Andreas Iliadis, the defense of the accused for Georgina’s death requested.
Her advocate 34 years old, Alexis Kougias, asked the court, after her apology, to allow her to be examined with Mr. Iliadis, in order to clarify whether the defendant’s claim that the intensivist had referred to a delayed reaction of Karamandanios to Georgina’s objection is true – something that the witness himself categorically denied.
Mr. Kougias told the court that the doctors “had told the accused, that if Georgina had been intubated in the first ten minutes in Karamandanio, she would be walking now”. However, Mr. Iliadis himself denied that he had said such a thing: “It is not in my medical capacity to make such expressions” said the witness.
During the examination of the witness, the defense attorney asked Mr. Iliadis about an interview he had given in July 2022. The president also intervened in the dialogue.
Alexis Kougias: You say that you regard the opposition to Georgina as a third death. He writes that you said that the finale of the drama in Georgina was written in Karamandanio. He says that you knew that the child would never speak again, never walk again What I have been saying for so many days: that the resuscitation in Karamandanio was death. Why are you not answering me for so many days? You say what I say, and you say here that you understood all this after the magnetic….
Witness: Of course, I regard opposition as death. We would never get Georgina to walk. But life is not completed for someone to walk. But even a step, a kick of a ball, is important enough for a family. We didn’t give her her time. Children’s rehabilitation can take two or three years…
Chairman: What does that drama ending you said mean?
Witness: If it wasn’t for Mr. Hasapopoulos (anaesthesiologist of Karamandanio) the child would have died in Karamandanio.
Alexis Kougias: We request a cross-examination of Mr. Iliadis and the accused. He had told her that if Georgina had been intubated in the first ten minutes in Karamandanio, the child would have walked.
Chairman: You mean after the defendant’s plea?
Alexis Kougias: Yes. He had told the accused that if the child had been intubated in 10 minutes, he would have gone to school.
Witness: It is not in my medical field to say such expressions. Every night (when Georgina was in the ICU) we didn’t know if it would dawn.
The doctor repeated that while the little girl was in the ICU, she did not have any episodes, and that the events started after she was extubated.
“Could the accused have caused them?” the defense attorney asked him, with the witness replying, “No one knows that.”
Mr. Kougias, in another round of questions, asked the witness “when did the discussions about the transplants with the lady accused?’ with Mr. Iliadis answering sharply “Never!”.
Chairman: Is this the position of the defendant, counsel?
Alexis Kougias: Of course.
Chairman: And why didn’t you say so from the beginning?
Alexis Kougias: Why, was there anyone to direct Ms. the accused? (s.s. refers to the defendant’s previous lawyers)
Chairman: But you don’t say it in your memos either.
Alexis Kougias: Then I edited it.
Chairman: Is this also the position of Mr. Daskalakis? Had she told her husband?
Alexis Kougias: No. They rarely appeared.
Chairman: And what did the principal say, in the discussions you refer to about transplants?
Alexis Kougias: Denied.
In the demonstration by Mr. Kougia of photographs of the accused with Georgina, so that the witness can answer if he sees them “an indifferent mother” Mr. Iliadis replied that “I have submitted my opinion. I can’t judge from a photo.”
Chairman: Who has taken this photo?
Roula Pispirigou: Manos in the ICU.
The examination of Mr. Iliadis will continue in another hearing to be determined by the court.
