A wooden Citroën 2CV, estimated to be worth between 150,000 and 200,000 euros, will be auctioned on June 4 in France, the Aymeric and Philippe Rouillac auction house announced today.

“It’s the only wooden car in the world in perfect condition. It’s a great sale. It’s a unique car and a work of art,” Emerick Rouillac told AFP.

The auctioneers estimated the value of the car based on the “world record for a 2CV”, which had reached 176,000 euros. This “has the potential to break the record,” Rouillac estimated.

The auction will take place in Montbazon, in central France.

The body of the AZKA-type 2CV dates back to 1955 and was built entirely from fruit tree wood by French carpenter Michel Robilliard.

“La Belle Lochoise” is made of walnut for the fenders, pear and apple for the body and cherry for the doors and trunk.

“The car has passed the roadworthiness test, has a gray card (S.t.S: car ownership title) from 1957, is registered, insured and therefore can go on the road,” said Emerick Rouillac.

Robiard, who mainly built wooden models for Ferrari, started building his 2CV in 2011.

“I spent five years of my life there, 5,000 hours of work, passion, day and sometimes night. And the 2CV left my workshop driving it in September 2017,” he tells AFP.

“I have a tightness in my heart. But I already have another crazy venture in mind: building a Chapron DS21 Cabriolet coupe, in 27 months, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the DS,” announced the retiree.
