“The fight for life that S.S. fought in the ICU did not weaken the defendant’s determination to take his wife’s life. As part of her criminal design he administered the fatal dose on August 15 while she was being treated at the B pathology clinic of “Papanikolou” which caused severe damage to her.
He suffered multiple organ failure which led to her death on August 23, 2013″ pointed out, among others, the prosecutor of the MOD Leonidas Nikolopoulos.
He also added the following:
“Both women accepted toxic doses of arsenic and this was not accidental but due to fraudulent action”
“During her hospitalization at the hospital, none of S.S.’s companions or the nursing staff could perceive what was happening.
The defendant prepared the solution with arsenic trioxide and placed it in water bottles before entering the hospital. The result of his criminal action was that S.S. consumed the water with the arsenic.”
Mr. Nikolopoulos pointed out about the incident with the grandmother:
“The defendant went to the kitchen of the house and placed arsenic trioxide in a bottle of water that was in the refrigerator and only his wife’s grandmother was drinking.”
“As the son-in-law of the family he had complete freedom and was above suspicion. It was a daily routine move for him while others were busy with his daughter, he could place the male.”
The 50-year-old himself declares his innocence and denies how he killed his wife and her grandmother while talking about an accident.
“All accusations are baseless and baseless. As you will also find out during the hearing, they are unprovable” said the 50-year-old before the MoE, at the beginning of the appeal trial.

As stated in the reasoning of the first instance decision, the lecturer had entered into an agreement extramarital affair with a 20-year-old student originally from Georgia. However, he did not wish to officially divorce his wife, who had asked him for a divorce due to intense arguments, so as not to lose her diligence of their minor daughter and possibly face problems with his university progress.
From February 2013 he started giving her doses of arsenic, through water or food.
To rule out the possibility of deliberate action, the lecturer thought of poisoning his wife’s grandmother as well so that the ingestion of arsenic, through the digestive system, would appear to be due to accident.
