The new Mercedes EQS

By Aris Galanopoulos

The new EQS, Mercedes’ electric flagship stands out for its design, innovative technologies that it incorporates and its unimaginable performance. Available in two versions, the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC + with 333 to 523 hp, followed by an even more powerful version, which is signed by AMG and its performance reaches 658 hp and 950 Nm (with the possibility of upgrading to 1.020 Nm with the program “Race Start”). Regarding the “simple” EQS, the maximum torque is 568 Nm (in EQS 450+) and 855 Nm (in EQS 580 4MATIC +), offering a range of up to 770 km, depending on the equipment of the vehicle. Top speed is electronically limited to 210 km / h.

All models have an electric transmission (eATS) at the rear axle, while the 4MATIC + four-wheel drive versions are equipped with two modern, permanently excited electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear.

EQS marks the beginning of a new generation of batteries with significantly higher energy density. The larger of the two batteries is 107.8 kWh, which is about 26% more powerful than the EQC. Battery management software developed internally by Mercedes-Benz enables over-the-air (OTA) updates so that EQS power management is always up-to-date throughout its life cycle.

The design of the model has a characteristic silhouette with short cantilevers and a large curved roof. This is the reason why it records a record in aerodynamics for production cars, with the drag coefficient being cd 0.20, contributing decisively to the increased autonomy and the reduction of the aerodynamic noises. At speeds below 40 km / h (in city traffic) the EQS rises by 25 mm, so that it passes smoothly over the transverse defects. The basic equipment includes four-way, with a turning circle up to 10.9 m.

Inside is the Hyperscreen display set, with three OLED screens, of which the 12.3-inch is the digital instrument panel and the huge 17.7-inch is the main touch screen. Finally, the trio is completed by another 12.3 inches, which is located in front of the passenger. Still, passengers enjoy generous space for both legs and head, while luggage space starts at 610 liters and reaches 1,770. The new, purely electric EQS limousine sets new standards not only in luxury but also in the evolution of Mercedes-EQ, marking a new era for the company. It will excite both the driver and its passengers, combining technology, design, functionality and connectivity, offering modern luxury.

The Mercedes EQS is available in the Greek market in both the two-wheeled 450+ and the four-wheel drive 580 4Matic, with the starting price of 141,750 euros.
