The municipality of Byron can now proceed with its general upgrade and its transformation into a “smart city”.

As announced by the Municipal Authority, the financing of two very important projects was approved by the Antonis Tritsis program.

The first project is worth 4,800,00 euros and concerns 13 sub-projects, which include, among other things, “smart” street lighting, the full digitization of municipal services for the remote service of all citizens, ground and aerial means of surveillance of forest areas with 4×4 vehicles, drones, etc.

The second project is worth 260,000 euros and concerns the preparation of a study, which will launch the major regeneration of the city center.

Beyond that, there is the general planning for the overall redevelopment, which, in addition to the center, also includes the area of ​​Metamorphosis and foresees a budget of 9 million euros.

It will aim at the aesthetic, functional and bioclimatic upgrading of these areas, it will also include the regeneration of Martaki, Smyrni (Hiroo) and Eleftherios Venizelos (Agios Lazaros) squares, the enhancement of greenery, the “green” routes, cycle paths, reconstruction of sidewalks, etc. a.

“Byron is becoming smart and friendly to residents and visitors. We are moving decisively with a plan and program for the future of Byron and we are securing the money to achieve it”, said the mayor Grigoris Katopodis, among others.
