In an atmosphere of special emotion, today, Sunday, May 28, the annual commemoration of the fallen Priests and Commandos was held at the Hero of the LOK in Kavouri, Attica, in the presence of the Minister of National Defense Alkiviadis Stefanis and the head of the GETHA General Konstantinos Floros.

Absent for the first time were the late Hierolochi general Konstantinos Korkas and the honorary general inspector of the Army lieutenant general e.a. Christos Fotopoulos.

The annual memorial was also attended by the Mayor of Varis – Voula – Vouliagmeni Grigoris Constantellos, the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Angelos Houdeloudis and the Chief of General Staff Ioannis Drimoussis , the commander of the Special Warfare Command (DEP) of the GETHA Lieutenant General Dimitrios Houpis, the commander of the Supreme Military Support Command (ASDYS) Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis and the GES Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, the President of the Municipal Council of Papagos – Cholargos ‘Anna Maria Tsikrikoni, as the representative of the mayor of Papagos – Cholargo Ilias Apostolopoulos, the commander of the Interbranch Special Operations Command (DDEE) Lt. Gen. Konstantinos Alexakis, the director of the Directorate of Special Forces of the GES (GES/DES) Lt. Gen. Nikolaos Giannopoulos and the deputy commander of the Special Warfare Command (DEP) of the GEETHA Lt. General Spyridon Kogiannis, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Athens War Museum and former Deputy Minister of Tourism Development Anastasios Liaskos, the president of the Union of Retired Army Officers Lt. General e.a. Ioannis Devouros, representatives of Associations of Demobilized and Reserve Commandos, family members of the deceased as well as active and retired officers.

After the ceremony, the minister emphasized: “With a memorial service, invocation of the dead, speeches, laying of wreaths and the National Anthem, we paid honor to the fallen Hierolohites and Commandos heroes. Their self-sacrifice is a sacred legacy for the younger generation. We thank them, honor them and promise to continue the effort for a strong Greece. Their memory is eternal!”.
