A criminal group perpetrating fraud was discovered in Chania and a case was filed against fifty-nine people accused of forty-six cases of fraud

By presenting false facts as true, these individuals managed to extract a total of 215,372 euros.

The cases were investigated by officers of the Kissamos Police Department and according to EL.AS they were committed in various regions of the country.

The case file concerns fifty Greeks, of whom 13 are women and nine foreigners, of whom one is a woman. All accused, for setting up a criminal group that committed telephone fraud.

The officers of the Kissamos Police Department, after a long-term investigation, found that a citizen, who is incarcerated in a detention center, had joined the other members of the criminal group and acted with a structured hierarchy and distinctive roles.

The involved and defendants were deceiving mainly elderly people through phone calls, who were promised financial rewards and in this way extorted money from them.

As it emerged from the preliminary investigation of the above Service and after the appropriate utilization of data, the perpetrators during the time period from 03.01.2022 to 26.04.2023 had extracted a total of 215,372 euros from victims throughout Greece, including 11 from the Chania Regional Unit. The preliminary investigation is carried out by the Kissamos Police Department.

Also, two foreigners were arrested in the area of ​​the Municipality of Platanias in Chania, accused of violations of the Legislation on narcotic substances. Police officers from the Platanias Police Department carried out a check on the foreigners during which they were found in their possession and 20 grams of cannabis were confiscated.
