The Perama Port Authority proceeded with the arrest of four people, after yesterday’s incident occupational accident that occurred in the shipbuilding repair zone Perama, which resulted in one person losing his life and two others being seriously injured.

It concerns the master of the ship, the safety technician – supervisor of workers’ health and safety measures, the employer of the operator of the crane vehicle and the representative of the company that carried out the repair work.

24-hour strike on Tuesday

Meanwhile, the workers of the Zone are going on a 24-hour strike today Tuesday, following a decision by the management of the Attica Metal and Shipbuilding Industry Union in response to the new workplace crime that occurred on Monday with one dead worker and two seriously injured.

As part of the strike, at 8 am, a General Assembly will be held at the gate of the Zone, where the Syndicate’s branch is located, to decide their next competitive steps.

How did the accident happen?

The incident occurred when during operations to extract the fin using a crane vehicle, from a ship under repair, it was ejected and disconnected from its transport hook and then fell onto an existing scaffold on which four 04 people were carrying out the work, with resulting in the injury of the 47-year-old operator of the crane vehicle and also the injury of a 47-year-old and a 43-year-old.

The 47-year-old crane operator was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. One of the injured is being treated at “ZANEIO” hospital and the other at a private hospital.

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Theodoros Kliaris was informed about the incident and gave an order for the immediate investigation of the causes and circumstances of the accident.

At the same time, he contacted the relatives of the deceased expressing his warm and sincere condolences as well as his regret for the incident, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
