The pediatrician Konstantinos Kyriakoulis testified that in his career he had never encountered a case similar to Georgina’s
The line of doctors of the Onassios Cardiac Surgery Center, where she had been transferred Georgina in May 2021 from the University Hospital of Patras, came to her trial Roulas Pispirigou before the Joint Jury.
He was the first of his doctors to testify in court Onassiou who attended Georgina the pediatrician Konstantinos Kyriakoulis. The witness works in the Cardiac Surgery Unit, where Georgina had stayed for a month “for assessment and defibrillator placement”.
The doctor said so he had not encountered in his career a similar case to Georgina’s, stating that “the life expectancy of children with encephalopathy is not the same as the general population”. He added, however, that when they learned that Georgina ended up in the Children’s “it was a surprise for all of us”.

Mr. Kyriakoulis noted that defibrillator by giving current, it can cause an arrhythmia dangerous for the child. “He can deal with this effectively. When the contractions subside, it can provide current and protect the heart. It was the best we could do to protect Georgina from arrhythmias,” he stressed.
To the president’s question about one seizure episode who presented the little girl to Onasio, the witness described it as expected given that Georgina was a child who had suffered brain damage after the arrest. “It’s something that can happen after a stroke. Convulsions may occur in affected children. It is to be expected,” he pointed out.
Also, when asked if R. Pispirigou was in the Unit when the child had the convulsions episode, she answered that the accused was not in Onassios as she remembers, as she said, that they contacted her by phone.
Prosecutor: During Georgina’s hospitalization what stages did you undertake? What part were you involved in?
Witness: When a child is admitted to Onassios, a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon takes over his hospitalization. We made sure to do the best for him to have a shorter hospitalization in the Unit. While he was in the Intensive Care Unit we made sure to do other things as well. We called the physiotherapist, for example.
Prosecutor: Do you remember specific days when you were on duty and did something come up or not?
Witness: Nothing came of it on my watch.
Asked by the defense about the ketamine, Mr. Kyriakoulis said that it is a very useful medicine that doctors use every day. However, he clarified that it was not used for Georgina’s case.
Defense: No one from Onassios was aware that there were suspicions of child abuse. Correctly; Who had these suspicions?
Witness: They were suspicions of the colleagues from Patras. We found out when Georgina ended up. We discussed that there was a suspicion that there might have been abuse. We combined the information.
When asked about Georgina’s parents, the witness replied that there was nothing strange about their behavior and that they were typical and polite.
The trial continues.
