The Mixed Jury Court of Heraklion imposed a 13-year prison sentence on the 43-year-old Heraklion man who, on July 6, 2022, beat his mother to death inside the woman’s house in Heraklion.

The Court recognized that the 43-year-old committed the homicide under a reduced imputation regime and therefore imposed a 13-year sentence on the accused, of which five years will be served in the psychiatric ward of Korydallos, with the right to extend his incarceration there, if deemed necessary.

He was delirious at trial

In his apology, the 43-year-old claimed that “it all started when they kidnapped his wife and sent a hostage in her place her, who was trying in her own way to destroy him: physically and mentally”.

As he said, she did nothing at home and used to put hallucinogens in his food to make him sleep. In fact, he mentioned that one day while he was at home, he heard a woman calling for help. He went outside but saw no one, but expressed his belief that the voices were his real kidnapped wife who had managed to escape.

Referring to the day in question, the 43-year-old described that he had lost track of time as he said he was not being told the actual time, date, year.

I’m 100 years in, we’re in 2123said the 43-year-old from Heraklion in his apology

Also because of the pills he couldn’t wake up and he wasn’t consistent with his work, so his mother needed to call him several times a day to wake him up, and as a result their relationship was strained.

That day the man took his things to go to his mother. He suspected that there was an intention to take him to some institution for internment and then he “secured”.

He talked to his mother and then hit her, although he claims that he did not hit her much, not even with a stick as has been reported. He said that her nose and lips were bloody, and after they had fought long enough and had fallen to the floor, he, tired, went to sleep, leaving his mother on her back on the floor, but alive.

It was the police ringing the doorbell that woke him up, and in apparent confusion, the 43-year-old said he hadn’t called the police, but “apparently” his mother got up and called.
