The Cinemateca Brasileira will host, from Friday (9) to Sunday (11), the first edition of Portugal 360 in the capital of São Paulo, an event about the culture, gastronomy and identity of the different regions of the European country.

During three days, the public can learn more about Portugal through film screenings, lectures, presentation of teaching programs and cultural activities aimed at different age groups. The event, organized by the Portuguese government, is free, but some attractions require ticket reservation.

One of the examples of Portuguese cinema included in the program is the film “Listen”, directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa. In the story, a couple of Portuguese immigrants who live on the outskirts of London struggle to survive and raise their children. The title is displayed this Friday (9) at 6 pm – tickets are always withdrawn one hour before each session.

On the gastronomic front, there will be the presence of chefs such as Vitor Sobral, who runs four houses in Portugal, including Tasca da Esquina, which also has a branch in São Paulo.

Sobral, one of the names that represents the renewal of gastronomy and tourism in the country, will teach how to prepare dishes such as bread soup and sardines. The area dedicated to food also includes a product market and booths.

Wines, liqueurs, oils and cheeses from different regions of the country such as Alentejo and Douro can also be tasted during the three days of the event.

The last edition of Portugal 360º took place in 2019, in Rio de Janeiro. The pandemic meant that São Paulo could not host the event earlier, explains Luis Araújo, president of Turismo de Portugal, a body integrated with the Ministry of Economy and the Sea, which is the country’s tourist authority. According to Araújo, the two cities may alternate in future editions of the event.

Among the highlights are the show “Amália em NY”, by Vicente Alves do Ó, with actress Luísa Ortigoso. During the three days, it will also be possible to attend performances by Caretos de Podence, a traditional cultural event in the village of Podence, 40 kilometers from Bragança, where people in colorful costumes and masks take to the streets during Carnival.

The public will also have the opportunity to see the productions of Bordalo II, an urban artist who uses waste to create his works, promoting sustainability and ecological and social awareness.

Anyone who has thought about studying or living in the country will also find institutions that present, in lectures, a little more about how teaching works and what are the investment opportunities in Portugal.
