The new station will replace the stations in Liosion and Kifissos – Direct connection to Eleonas Metro station
The way is opened for the implementation of the new Central Station of Intercity Buses (KSYL) in Eleonasof a large transport project, which will be a modern transport gateway for long-distance road transport to and from Athens.
By decision of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the environmental conditions of the project, with a budget of more than 100 million euros, were approved, while the Implementing Body of the project is the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The new station will replace the existing intercity bus stations, Kifissou and Liosion, and with its implementation is expected to be a transfer hub as it will be next to the Eleonas Metro, in a series of city bus stops in order to be able to move the public easily to and from the capital. It will also serve national long-distance buses and international transport buses.
It will include 4 buildings, a conference center, a hotel, entry control areas to the airport-style docks, 70 KTEL bus seats, shops and services. It will serve over 40,000 passengers per day which translates into 15 million passengers per year.
Where will it be built?
The new Central Intercity Bus Station (KSYL) is planned to be built on an area of ​​66,420 sq.m in the area of ​​Eleonas, within the Municipality of Aigaleo, which is surrounded by the side road of the Athens-Lamia National Road (Kifisos Avenue), the Sacred Way and the Agia ‘Anni and Pieria streets.
It will be connected almost directly to the ELEONAS Metro station of Line 3, facilitating the movement of travelers to other means of transport, i.e. to the center of Athens, the port of Piraeus or Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. At the same time, there will be the possibility of direct access to the Athens-Lamia National Road (L. Kifissou), to the main road network of Attica (Iera Odos, Orfeos, Ag. Polykarpou).
Within the KSYL there will be taxi stands, parking areas and/or car parking areas. of cars, departures/stops of City Buses (New OASA Bus Station in Eleonas on Attiko Metro plot, area of ​​approximately 4 acres in contact with the northern border of the “Eleonas” Metro station). It is planned to move the KTEL departure points of Western Attica to the same place.
With the new station, the passenger experience is upgraded, while it will resemble a small airport with the presence of shops, restaurants, service areas, etc.
The premises of the new station
The KSYL building complex will be built on the area of ​​the existing Attiko Metro depot. The new constructions of KSYL will be built for the most part as a height addition, on the basis of the pre-existing construction of the depot and its extension.
The total of closed areas occupies 41,115.00 sq.m., it has additional circulation areas of 2.765.00 sq.m. while the general building total is 43,880.00 sq.m. The underground car/bus parking spaces are 28,052.00 sq.m. the additional spaces are 35,586.00 sq.m. The total of covered spaces is 13,605.00 sq.m. and the outdoor 25,489.00 sq.m.
According to the decision, within the main objectives of the next planning stages is the achievement of a “Nearly Zero Energy Building” (nZEB) character.
The building composition includes:
-Passenger Arrivals – Departures Hall (Main station hall, ticket office area. Various ancillary services, Passenger Traffic Control Area).
– Area of ​​Arrivals – Departures of National Destination Buses (vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic).
– Baggage handling area (closed storage areas, auxiliary handling areas).
-Intercity Bus Station office area (Transfer Offices, drivers’ rest area).
-Places of cultural interest (exhibition area, convention center area)
– Area of ​​Arrivals – Departures of Buses of International Destinations (vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic).
-Vehicle Parking Area (K.T.E.L. Buses – Long-term parking and waiting for buses, private cars).
-Vehicle traffic area.
-Various Bus Infrastructures (covered areas).
-Computer installations
-Transfer station – Connection to “Elaionas” Metro station (covered traffic – connection to Central Station, commercial uses).
-Other uses (Commercial-Tourist)
-Outdoor areas for public gathering.
The above Functions/Spaces are distributed in the buildings of the Central Intercity Bus Station, which are provided as follows:
-Building A, houses the parking areas/docks of the national KTEL bus lines (on two levels), the parking areas for private cars and the hotel unit that accompanies the station.
– Central Building B, is the reception center for passengers and visitors of the station. It includes the main arrivals and departures hall, commercial service/shop uses, catering areas, Convention Center and Exhibition Halls.
-Building C, hosts the parking areas/docks of international destination buses.
-Ancillary Building D, hosts the bus parking/withdrawal areas.
Where will the buses park?
KTEL buses will enter the station via Kastorias Street, while there will be two levels of parking for the buses that will run the routes. The total number of places will be 70, and they will be distributed over the two floors of Building A. In particular, on the lower floor, the bus parking spaces correspond to 31 spaces for 12-meter or 15-meter buses, 1 parking space for a 12-meter bus and two parking spaces for electric utility vehicles. Total number of seats: 34.
On the highest floor of Building A, there will be 32 spaces for 12-meter or 15-meter buses, 2 spaces for 12-meter buses and 2 parking spaces for electric utility vehicles. Total number of seats: 36
Transportation hub
The new station in Eleonas is expected to function as a transfer hub, which will be supported by:
– The Metro, through the “Elaionas” station, which is directly adjacent to it
– The OASA urban bus line station (start/end)
– West Attica KTEL bus departure point
– Car Parking Space cars and bikes (park & ​​ride)
– Transfer areas from/to taxis
– Parking spaces for two-wheelers and cars for transfers (kiss & ride)
– Support areas for agencies of international bus lines, which will be included, if possible, in the KSYL facilities.
