“The caretaker government must guarantee respect for freedom of expression, dissemination of ideas and information, assessment of facts and conclusions”, emphasized the caretaker prime minister, Ioannis Sarmas, during his presentation to today’s Council of Ministers held at Megaros Maximos and continued:

The caretaker government cannot intervene even in the election campaign. Let me remind you that the freedom of hearing, especially in pre-election periods, also covers expressions, ideas, information that may cause concern and even shock. It is necessary in our legal culture and we must accept it”.

He also noted that “the State and each of its governments embraces all Greeks without discrimination. All Greeks, as members of the democratic motherland, understanding the requirements, must exercise all their political rights undivided”.

Referring to migratory Mr. Sharmas commented that “I wish to express my thanks to the government of the Turkish Republic because, as we can see, it is cooperating with the Greek government in dealing with the scourge of democratic societies which is characterized by the ruthless exploitation of people by traffickers.

Regarding Evros, I would like to thank the two competent ministers, Citizen Protection and National Defense, as well as the armed forces for the effort you are making to prevent illegal entry of foreigners into our country. Those who request asylum must use the statutory entry gates in Greece. From there on, any entry that is not made from there creates a question of regularity and what we owe is to make the necessary efforts.”
