They “burned” the cigarettes the robbers were smoking while waiting for the lights to turn off
It took almost ten months before the officers of the Hersonissos Police Department proceeded with absolute certainty of involvement in the arrest of a 42-year-old Bulgarianas one of the four perpetrators who had broken into the luxurious detached house of the well-known hotelier and former mayor in the area of Stalida. The whole scene was terrifying for the family of three, their parents and daughter, who managed to keep their cool. The perpetrators may not have committed violence against them, but it was undoubtedly a nightmarish experience that no one would wish even on their enemy.
The developments fully confirm the revealing report of Cretalive regarding the critical findings found by the police during the exploration of the area, even around the perimeter of the mansion, focusing among other things on some cigarette butts that the robbers had smoked while waiting in the middle of the night to turn off the lights, an indication that the family members had gone to sleep.
But let’s see in detail how the police of Hersonissos reached their tracks, gradually and methodically unfolding all the evidence:
The car
According to reliable information, they had the 42-year-old’s car, a small passenger car, almost immediately at their disposal. The vehicle is recorded by a security camera in Stalida turning towards Heraklion about ten minutes after the robbers had left the family’s detached house. At 4 in the morning there are not many vehicles moving around.
As part of the preliminary investigation, they identified the driver and saw that he is a 42-year-old Bulgarian, who lives in Heraklion and has lived in Greece for many years.
Voulgaros has no direct connection with the area of Stalida, but his relatives live there.
However he works in a business that was related to hotel catering. On the other hand, he has a rich criminal past with breaking into hotel rooms even when the occupants were inside. He had, as reported by police circles, no qualms.
DNA and cigarette butts
Sources told the Cretalive that under no circumstances did the police want to risk an arrest with the only evidence being the video recorded by the 42-year-old suspect’s vehicle. They patiently waited for the DNA results, thinking they would fall through. They had done an excellent job of exploring the space, inside and outside the detached house. And mostly outside. Cretalive had revealed since November 2022 that police officers during the “scanning” of the exterior and the route through which the perpetrators moved, found some cigarette butts, which were suspected to be related to the robbers.
They were cigarette butts from three different brands of cigarettes and they were “fresh”. DNA of the 42-year-old Bulgarian was identified in them.
There is still a clear shoe print inside the house. It had rained red dirt and it was very clean.
The perpetrators waited long enough for the lights to be turned off to use the false code. But in vain. The light from the daughter’s bedroom never went off. So they decided to go in and not delay it any longer. In the meantime they had smoked several cigarettes.
They blocked him before work
When the results arrived in their hands, they immediately activated the plan to arrest the 42-year-old. Early on Monday, with what he found from his home, in Heraklion, to get into the car and go to work, the police officers of the security team of Hersonissos blocked him.
He himself remains a “sphinx” for what is attributed to him and for his accomplices. Reports say that family members have identified his body type. The 42-year-old is expected to be brought before the court on Tuesday.
