Samples of World War II atomic weapons are on display at the Rupel Museum
Video from inside his Museum Fort Rupel entitled “Macedonian Thermopylae” was released on Tuesday by the General Staff of the Army. The Museum has been operating since 2005 in the surroundings of the fort of the same name,
The historic site of Fort Rupel includes the Memorial to the fallen of the battle of the same name (April 6-9, 1941), parts of the fort that were not destroyed, and the Military Museum. Part of the fort’s arcades has been converted into a museum space, enabling the visitor to tour the largest complex of the fortified site along the Greek-Bulgarian border, with today’s arcade length over 4 kilometers.
In the Museum area, samples of personal armament of the Second World War, decorations – medals awarded to the fighters who played an important role in the battle of the Fort, as well as their uniforms, are exhibited.
It is noted that the German colonel who took over the Rupel fort, congratulated the commander and expressed his admiration and appreciation for the resistance and heroism of the Greek soldiers. Some machine guns continued to fight despite the capitulation, such as in the P8 machine gun led by Dimitrios Itzios, who was killed when he charged out of the P8 machine gun with an arabian.
