The couple, like many others who were on the beach, while the waves were huge, it seems that they did not try to swim but at the edge of the sand they tried to take selfies in the waves
There are more and more details from eyewitnesses about the tragedy at noon on Saturday at Kathisma beach in Lefkada that resulted in the death of a Romanian tourist and the endangerment of his wife.
According to ilefkada.gr, the couple, like many others who were on the beach, while the waves were huge, it seems that they did not try to swim but at the edge of the sand they tried to take selfies in the waves.
Thus the waves carried away both the unfortunate man and his wife. According to testimonies, specifically a Serbian tourist who was there with his family and still hasn’t recovered from the shock, he saw the couple taking a selfie and the woman being swept away by the waves. “I immediately ran, despite my wife and daughter screaming, and tried to catch her. At one point we were both under water and I think the wave threw us ashore. Then some people took her from my hands and dragged her to sand and safe area. Then we realized her husband because the woman started screaming,” the eyewitness will tell us.
A difficult day of those when no one should approach the waves at Kathisma. Unfortunately the unlucky man was unable to withstand the struggle with the waves.
